Garrett Sands is an American actor based in New York.

 

He spent much of his childhood immersed in the world of classical music, performing at piano competitions and events across New England throughout his adolescence. Eventually disillusioned with the cutthroat nature of piano performance, he developed an aptitude for composition and music production. He attended Burr and Burton Academy in Manchester, Vermont and was actively involved in the arts, writing music for school concerts and performing in numerous ensembles. He began to develop an interest in theatre and film, acting in numerous student productions and was cast in several independent short films, including the title role in Enrico Pau's Gabriel which premiered at the 2019 Giffoni Film Festival.

Garrett was granted admission to The Boston Conservatory at Berklee in Boston, Massachusetts, initially working towards a BM in Composition. In his first year as a music student, he reauditioned for the school and was accepted into the theatre division where he was the recipient of Berklee's Thrive Scholarship. He appeared in productions of Everybody by Branden Jacob-Jenkins and Mr. Burns: A Post Electric Play by Anne Washburn. Within three years. he graduated in 2022 with a BFA in Contemporary Theatre. That same year, he was one of 16 young actors across the country accepted into The LINK Program's TV/Film track as a member of Class 5.

In 2023, Garrett notably collaborated twice with the internationally recognized Arlekin Players Theatre. He appeared in Golden Mask winner Sasha Denisova's US premiere of The Gaaga. The production received enthusiastic praise from publications such as The Washington Post and The Boston Globe, with Garrett's performance being singled out as 'chilling' and 'powerful'. Along with the rest of the cast, he was nominated for Outstanding Ensemble at the 2024 Elliot Norton Awards. In addition, Garrett was featured in the Boston premiere of Just Tell No One, devised from material by Ukrainian playwrights Natal'ya Vorozhbit and Oksana Savchenko, hosted at The Huntington.

In early 2024, Garrett made his Off-Broadway debut as an understudy in The MART Foundation & Arlekin Players' production of Our Class by Tadeusz Slobodzianek at BAM Fisher, directed by Igor Golyak. The production received widespread acclaim from The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and Time Out, and received a Drama League nomination for Outstanding Revival of a Play.
